Sheilah Downs (SI Lower Hutt,New Zealand, NZ Central Region, SISWP) writes:

"I had a real fun day with fellow members from the three clubs in our area. It was organised by fellow Chatliner Barbara Milburn and a fellow Upper Hutt member Morag Martin. It was of course spent making Peace Dolls.

"Morag is a Home Economics teacher at one of our local schools so we had the use of her school facilities and a virtual treasure trove of materials, trimmings etc. You name it Morag had it!

"We started around 10.00 a.m. and finished at 3.00p.m We had a shared lunch, lots of fun and laughter as we made up our dolls.

"I, and others, had never done anything like this before so it was a real learning curve and we were very surprised at the results achieved. At the end of the day, Sue McEwan (ex Yorkshire Soroptimist) suggested that as we had enjoyed it so much, we do it again. So we are booked in again for the 27th August.

"Barbara had organised a local reporter, who actually covers three local papers in the Wellington area, to write up the Peace Doll story. The photographer came close to 3.00 and took photos, so we are all looking forward to gaining publicity for Soroptimists and the Project Independence story."

Sheilah concludes: "I can thoroughly recommend this as a way of having fun whilst doing something worthwhile for our projects."

Sheilah sent three more photos which were taken for the newspaper publicity which Soroptimist received from the three local papers in the Wellington region:

Yet more photos from Sheilah! She writes:
"Yesterday we had another successful session making peace dolls. Mostly from Upper Hutt club apart from myself. I used the opportunity to present Sue with a Chatline badge and then got them all to line with dolls and doggie!
