ZE BENIN BEARS of SI HAVERHILL/MERRIMACK VALLEY |
Gary Pitts, SI Haverhill/Merrimack Valley, sent the following:
"Here are pictures of our December 10th Appeal project that SI Haverhill/Merrimack Valley in Massachutes is doing. I was at the International Board Meeting when the project was presented, and talking to the other two members from our club who were there with me, we thought that making Christmas Ornaments
using netting and selling them would be a fun project.
" When we got back and presented it to the club everyone was really excited. Our President went to a craft store and found some white and brown mini teddy bears that we decorated with net skirts with blue and gold ribbon belts, used gold pipe cleaners to make the wings, added halos out of gold metal rhinestone settings and made angel ornaments. I found an angel bear in my computer art work which I printed on business cards along with a description of the Ze Benin project, and we call our bears "Ze Benin Bears".
" We are selling them for $5.00 each. We have sold them in one of our members stores, at our major fundraiser - a silent auction , and took some down to our Region Fall Workshop. One of our members found an article about the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, who has given $258 million to stamp out Malaria in Africa, so she sent one of the bears to them along with information about Soroptimist. We are still making them and will send at least $500.00 to the December 10th Appeal."
