LAXMI & AMBI PARASURAM FROM SI CALCUTTA JUNE 2006 |
"In response to an invitation I put out on the Chatline last Fall, Laxmi & Ambi Parasuram visited SI Cumberland County from
June 9th through June 17th to see what a rural area of the United States was like.
"While I was the official hostess (they stayed in my home), various Club members took them to see the sites of our area.
Bear in mind that Cumberland County is an hour from every major city, so some members took them to
Philadelphia and Atlantic City so they would see more than agricultural fields."
"On Monday Ambi & Laxmi were taken to Philadelphia where they saw the Liberty Bell
and toured Independence Hall. They also went on a tour of SIA Headquarters."
Linda Vanaman writes:
Linda sent photos and described what is happening in each:

" Lucy: A trip to Atlantic City would not be complete without seeing Lucy the Elephant, not a flesh and blood elephant,
but a 65' high wooden elephant.
( For more information about her see this website: http://www.lucytheelephant.org/)

"MatriArk is SI Cumberland County's Identifying Project. MatriArk is a residential center which
provides comprehensive substance abuse treatment and education to addicted women.
This program allows mothers and their children (infants to age 12) to live on campus
and straighten out their lives. Laxmi visited the site and told us about a similar project SI Calcutta supports."
