While some Soroptimists paddled or swam most Soroptimists walked to raise awareness and funds for their International project:" Project Independence - Women Survivors of War"
Sheilah Downs, SI Lower Hutt
sent photos taken on SI Lower Hutt's walk on September 23rd.
"The group in the photo are from l to r: Vera Ellen, Elaine Moffat,(with Sam
the dog),
Joy Clark, our President Ann Watts, Trish Olsen and Sheilah Downs"
She continuous: "Although only a few of us could walk today, it was
enjoyable - a typical blustery spring day in NZ. (We get the equinox winds
around Sept/Oct) We walked along a walkway (built by Rotarians) which
follows the Hutt River up its valley.
Scenery alongside the Hutt walkway
" Sometimes it is close to the river, at others there are fields and parks alongside. At the moment all the trees are in spring growth with lots of different shades of green.
The Belmont Hills from the Walkway
" We stopped halfway at a member's house whose home backs onto the walkway. There we had coffee and muffins before completing the journey. Most
enjoyable and of course very worthwhile."
