Community Baby Shower Event |
Marsha concluded: "This is a great community project that our outgoing District 2 Director, Kathy Verger Muscus, started as the SIA Coos Bay club, then again the next year, and now it's happening state wide. She, has worked tirelessly to get awareness for this project at the highest levels of our state government."

Oregon State Governor Kulongoski, Kathy Verger Muscus: District 2 Director,
and Carene Davis Stitt: Secretary, Northwestern Region.
Marsha Schauer of SI Portland East, NWR District 2, sent photographs and wrote:
"Thirty one Soroptimist clubs in District 2 of the NW Region of SIA are planning our Saturday of Service for 3/04/06 - a Community Baby Shower. We will be doing this in Oregon in partnership with the Department of Human
Services. The 'gifts' will be distributed by the DHS offices throughout Oregon to help those who need a hand at this special time - those babies and moms who don't have showers or get baby gifts. These are families who
sometimes do not have the basic items for babies, such as shampoo, diapers, baby soap, blankets etc. They do not have the money to buy these things, and these are things that are not covered by the various programs offered by the Department of Human Services.

"Project Chairwoman Mary Zoe Petersen said Gresham's community baby shower is one of many that will take place across the state as Soroptimist International celebrates its annual Saturday of Service this weekend. The volunteer organization, established by professional women dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls, includes a Coos Bay chapter that initiated the community baby shower idea, she said."

Jocelyn Hanby, SI Brighton, Australia sent a photo and wrote:
"SI Brighton & Southern Districts in Melbourne Australia, participated in the annual 'Clean up Australia Day' which was held on Sunday 5th March, yesterday. Brighton decided it would also be our 'SOS' day so we just altered it to Sunday of Service."

Joc wrote further:
"It was a beautiful balmy 28 instead of the 40's we have been having. We cleaned up an area of Brighton Beach and found the usual suspects; lots
and lots of plastic, tennis balls, biros, broken glass,a pair of knickers (boys), 2 thongs - you know those flip flop things you wear on your feet, 4 needle covers but so very hopeful to us, no syringes. We had a very happy morning enjoying the cool sea breeze, lots of chat and laughter & more importantly helping to clean up our beautiful country."
