Susan Joyce sent photos and tells about Sierra Pacific Region's Annual Memorial service at Big Basin State Park.
On the left is a photo of a sampling of the beauty of the trees at Big Basin State Park.
Susan writes: "I was honored to have been invited to participate in the service by Sierra Pacific Region's Governor Jo Ann Vear, also a chatliner.
The day began with fog and very cold weather which soon turned into a very sunny and pleasant day. The park is so very beautiful. It is like being in an outdoor chapel.

The memorial service began with most attendees hiking one mile in to one of the Soroptimist grove locations. Governor Jo Ann read a piece entitled "The Dash", (To read this inspirational poem, here is a website address: http://www.armed-guard.com/dash.html)

Susan Joyce sang Amazing Grace acapella. On the photo left Susan is reading The Chair and singing Amazing Grace.
The names and club names of those who have passed on to higher service were read out and family members or club members deposited the engraved name plates into the memorial cylinder at the site. Susan deposited the name of Irma Galloway, Chatliner and Past Governor of Southern Region.

After hiking back to the outdoor ampitheater, the attendees lined up for a buffet lunch prepared by the Mid Santa Cruz Soroptimist club.

After lunch the service concluded with remarks by Governor Jo Ann, Cam Corbin, Chair of the Big Basin region committee, a park ranger and Linda Yule who is the Forest Programs Manager and the acapella singing of the Soroptimist Symphony by Susan Joyce which included the special verse Susan wrote for memorial services: "When my life's journey has its end...and when rememb'ring me my friend...think of the serving times we shared...and then much more for dreams we dared. And when rememb'ring me that day...please say a prayer to send my way...and pledge you'll keep our club alive...Soroptimist to thrive."
