|
One thousand four hundred Soroptimists attended the recent SI/A Convention in Calgary, Canada. Susan Joyce sent a number of photographs taken at the Convention. Susan writes: "Norma Rash, a Chatliner from Sierra Pacific Region sent us these photos; I thought I'd send them on to you in case they can be posted." The first is of Deanna Hanks, Norma Rash and Susan Joyce at the Chatline event.
On the photo below: Deanna, Kate, Norma and Susan at the joint Founder Region/Sierra Pacific Region dinner.
Susan writes further: " I was given the great honor of singing O Canada and our National Anthem at the joint dinner. There were 112 in attendance."

More Photos from Susan Joyce:
Susan explains: "This photo was taken at the Banff Gondola, Banff State Park on a free day at convention when we went to Lake Louise and Banff. The photo is from left to right, Susan Joyce, Helen Bailey, Deanna Hanks."
Finally, Susan describes a Highlight from the SIA convention...Frances Wright...The Famous Five
"Our final convention speaker Frances Wright brought us a
very important story of five women who made a distinct difference for women in
Canada as to achieving their rights...Her story was one of courage, conviction and dedication.
"The larger than life bronzes are a tribute to the five Albertan women responsible for changing legislation through the 'Persons' Case: Emily Murphy, Henrietta Muir Edwards, Louise McKinney, Irene Parlby and Nellie McClung."
"This monument symbolizes one of the most important democratic achievements by Canadians for Canadians," said Frances Wright, President and CEO of the Famous 5 Foundation. "It will recognize the role women have played in building Canada and remind us how we became the country we are today."
Susan sent several photos taken when she and Deanna visited the Famous Five Monument:
