   CARENE DAVIS-STITT: PARACHUTE JUMP
SOROPTIMIST FUNDRAISER

Carene Davis-Stitt shares her experience parachute jumping with us: " It was in 2001.   I did it as a fundraiser for SI Eugene (we raised over $200 and had a great party).   I did a tandem jump with an instructor and I loved it so much I have done several more and an accelerated free fall where the two instructors hold on to you until your chute is open and then let you come down on your own.   I need to improve my upper body strength before I do any more of that!

Getting Ready to jump
"The above photo shows me with my instructor sitting in the door of the plane at 10,000 feet above the ground just before we jumped out.   I am actually standing on the wheel of the plane and he is crouching above me.   We are attached together with very strong steel rings."

Free Fall
"This photo is of us in freefall somewhere between 10,000 and 8,000 feet above the ground.   We haven't opened the parachute yet.   We are just dropping through the air."

Free Fall

"Here we are almost down.   The chute is open and we are just gliding toward the ground."

Shown below:   "Back on the ground.   We have gathered up our gear and are heading back to the hanger and all my awaiting Soroptimist friends and my family.   That's me letting out a loud whoop.   It was the thrill of a lifetime."
