GOF VISITORS to the GOLDEN WEST REGION, JUNE 2003
|
Cathy Coyte, SI Big Bear Valley, CA, GWR, SIA
writes:"The Golden West Region (San Bernardino & Riverside
Counties California, Arizona, New Mexico and small parts of Nevada & Texas)
were delighted to be friendship grant hosts to Erene Grieve from SI Pembroke and
Lynda Edwards from SI Bridgend, South Wales Region of SIGBI. "
Cathy sent photos taken at their regional conference in Phoenix on
Saturday June 8th. She points out that "the Governor Victoria Nuth's banner
in the background clearly shows her theme "leading with your heart" something
that can equally apply to the chatliners."

The line up of Chatliners, from left to right, in the back row:
Theresa Regan-Blood and Joy Donelson. Front row: Cathy Coyte, Carol Roddy, Erene
Grieve, Lynda Edwards, Kathy McElvany, Judy Harris & Sherry
Luz.
" Kathy McElvany is Region Governor - Elect and Judy Harris
is District 1 Director. Missing from the pictures is past regional
governor Fran Ballard who attended the conference but unfortunately had to leave
before our photo session.
"On the Saturday all members wear club identifying dress, SI of Big Bear
Valley's "uniform" includes Bear Ears hence what could look like abnormal
growths out the top of the heads of Cathy Coyte and Theresa Regan Blood."

Shown
in front of Governor Victoria Nuth's banner with her theme "leading with your
heart" are Grant of Friendship visitors Lynda and Erene, with Cathy Coyte
between the two of them on the photo on the left, and Kathy McElvany on the
photo on the right side.
REPORT OF GRANT OF FRIENDSHIP VISIT BY LYNDA &
ERENE
Appeared as News Item on SI Wales South
Website
Erene Grieve(S.I.Milford Haven) and Lynda Edwards(
S.I.Bridgend) Wales South were recipients of a Grant of Friendship by the Golden
West Region, California in May/June this year. They were hosted by members of
district 2 which included clubs in Idyllwild, Temecula, Palm Desert, Twenty-nine
Palms, Desert Hot Springs and Hemet. They were given a memorable insight into
the work of Soroptimism and enjoyed the warmth of friendship which will remain
for many years to come. They renewed friendships at the Spring Conference in
Phoenix and gave a presentation on Wales to a large number of delegates. The
Welsh were in the forefront of their talks and they left a lasting impression
throughout their stay. Erene and Lynda highly recommend other Soroptimists to
consider applying for an offer of a grant of friendship and would be more than
pleased to talk to Wales South clubs about their experiences.

On the photo: Lynda and Erene give a
daffodil to Governor Victoria Nuth of the Golden West Region wth Cathy Coyte,
IGU Co-ordinator who arranged the Grant of Friendship.

Daffodils which had been purchased
for Marie Curie Cancer Care were donated by Wales South to members of SI
District 2, Golden West Region. Lynda adds "Our T-shirts came in handy on the last day when each club gave a promotional 'song and dance'." (Photo on the left)
