50th ANNIVERSARY OF SI RISHTON & GREAT HARWOOD

Jean Lord writes:

"Dear Chatliners,

" Our anniversary weekend went with a swing, on Friday evening our visit to the old Hall.   Guides dressed as Lady Mary and Sir Richard de Townely with President Marian Ford. We were met at the door by Sir Richard de Townely and his mother in the period costume of c. 1720, they took us on a historical tour of their home.

After visiting Townely Hall, back at my house for coffee and cake. On the photo from left Agnes Thomlinson, President Marian & Jean Lord.

"Saturday the trips out for shopping and seeing an industrial museum were enjoyed.   Saturday evening our Anniversary dinner, what a joyful occasion we had 170 guests , including fellow Chatliners Betty McKerrow and Val Gimbert.

A view of the dining room.

"All top table speakers were excellent, and to finish Gervaise Phinn, what a character, we laughed so much we cried, mostly about the things children say.   The lovely messages of congratulations the Chatliners sent gave a true International aspect to the evening.

I had made up a folder, which I left on the top table, to make sure Ann Garvie and other 'important people' could read.

Regional Presidents
This photo shows the Presidents from the Region who attended the dinner

" Sunday a few took the tour around the countryside, then a visit to Whalley Abbey, building was begun in 1520 mostly ruins now, a portion that was added on as living accommodation when William & Mary were on the throne still stands. That is where we had lunch."
