HILARY HAMPTON VISITS SI LOWER HUTT

Sheilah & Hilary Hampton Sheilah Downs, SI Lower Hutt, NZ Central Region, writes:

"Well it is rather quiet in my home now, as yesterday morning I saw Hilary off on the Inter-island Ferry which took her on the next stage of journey in NZ.   Shown on the photo on the right: Sheilah and Hilary Hampton.

"I picked Hilary up off the bus from Napier last Monday night. She had travelled via Auckland, Rotorua and Napier to Wellington. We had just had the worst weather over most of NZ for 20+ years, with places that had never before had snow, having heavy falls which brought down power lines and closed roads. (I did warn you brave travellers that this could happen in the middle of winter here!!)

" However, although it was still cold the four days Hilary was here did provide some dry weather and sunshine. Barbara Milburn and two members of her club of Upper Hutt did sterling work collecting Hilary each day and taking her around to see the sights of Wellington, for which I am eternally grateful.

"Hilary spent today travelling to Kaikoura on the east coast of the south island where she was to go whale watching. She is then travelling down to Dunedin, Queenstown, Greymouth and across to Christchurch before leaving for Sydney on 25th.

"Thursday night we visited SI Upper Hutt where their guest was Nima Sherpa (plus wife and baby) from Nepal. Nima has been sponsored to NZ by some local teachers who met him during earlier visits to Nepal. This is his second visit and he has taken English classes, computer and driving lessons, and learnt to play golf and to swim. The latter not possible to do in Nepal for obvious reasons!

"I was also able to take the opportunity to present Hilary with a Chatline Badge, which was a great thrill. This was my fourth opportunity to present a badge to a Chatliner in New Zealand, my first being Laxmi Parusaram, then Rene Hall and then Barbara Milburn."
