Barbara Milburn, Publicity Officer of SI Upper Hutt sent photos and wrote:
"These photos show aspects of the 13th Annual
Swimathon on March 9, 2003 organized by SI Upper Hutt New Zealand and co-sponsored with the Community Trust of Wellington (capital City of N.Z.)
"One hundred and twenty children from 6 local schools took part in sponsored lane swimming.
Money earned is banked by the school and goes towards paying for school
camp fees later in the year."

Barbara writes further: "The highlight is always the schools relay -
teams comprise 2 children and 2 teachers from each school! We regard the Swimathon as important to our involvement with the local community.
"I picked up the idea all those years ago from an article in the Soroptimist International News which told of a national swimathon organized by the Swiss clubs. As a keen swimmer, I took the idea aboard!!"
